METROLINK - Voice Alarm Evacuation System
Metrolink Manchester Piccadilly

PAS were contacted to assess the existing voice alarm system at the Metrolink station which was indicating numerous faults, known to be in excess of fifteen years old and no longer produced. It was clear from the site visit that the system was in need of replacement as the manufacturer was no longer in business.

A new VA control system was specified which would connect the existing network of speakers and wiring which had been tested okay. The swap over was planned for a night after the trams had stopped running and the station was unoccupied.

Utilising equipment which was compliant to EN54-16, our engineers built and tested a new equipment rack at our workshops prior to delivering it to site. The changeover was carried out with minimal fuss working alongside fire alarm engineers to ensure the two systems were talking to each other.

Working alongside ADT FIre & Security engineers, testing and commissiong was carried out which established the system to be above the minimum intelligibility required for voice evacuation systems and far is excess of that provided previously by the old equipment.

Our involvement with Metrolink and ADT also extends to the maintenance depot for trams which has a public address system covering the engine sheds and external areas which was fitted several years ago when the building was constructed.
